How to Make a Great LinkedIn Profile?

With hiring managers and recruiters increasingly leveraging social media, having a fantastic LinkedIn page is just as important as having a stellar CV.

LinkedIn is a professional social networking site.

The profile pages are formatted similarly to a CV, with individuals listing their abilities, providing career descriptions, and displaying their work and school backgrounds.

It is free to join, but there is a subscription service that allows access to a variety of services.

Despite the fact that LinkedIn has grown to become one of the world’s top professional networking sites, it did not begin that way.

When LinkedIn initially appeared on the scene in 2003, no one knew what to make of it.

The website appeared to be a means for coworkers to interact, but some suspected it was a dating service.

There were barely 20 sign-ups on certain days.

However, when LinkedIn introduced additional features and the potential for businesses to advertise and market themselves, the platform began to take off.

LinkedIn has 225 million users by 2013, with a growth rate of 2 members every second.

If you are a professional in 2022 and do not have a LinkedIn account, you are severely, as they say, “missing the boat.”

According to a CNBC report, an estimated 95% of recruiters use LinkedIn to discover potential clients, and the site is recognized as “the largest consistent source of qualified candidates on the Internet”.

If you’re a job seeker and don’t already have an up-to-date LinkedIn profile page, you should do so as soon as you finish reading the advice below.

Make the Effort to Make It Awesome

Simply, the more detailed your profile, the more likely recruiters will find you in the first place.

It’s also critical once a recruiter finds you and clicks on your profile: He or she is interested in learning about your abilities, where you’ve worked, and what others think of you.

Don’t be a slacker; fill out every single element of your profile.

Select a great photo

Choose a picture that is clear, welcoming, and adequately professional.

Are you unsure what “appropriately professional” entail?

Examine what people in your target company, industry sector, or business level are wearing. That should be matched.

Create a Catchy Headline

It is crucial that your headline field describes your personal brand rather than merely reporting your work title, and that your profile focuses on your accomplishments in each of your employment rather than simply listing the roles you’ve held.

The more explicit you can be about what distinguishes you from your competitors, the better.

Make use of numbers right away.

Hiring managers are obsessed with numbers!

Include data and statistics that demonstrate achievement wherever feasible. For example, ‘I assisted over 550 students in learning a second language,’ or ‘Through strategic planning, I raised $20,000 for a non-profit.’

Be welcoming and warm.

The summary section is your chance to highlight your best qualities while keeping your target audience in mind.

Show them your personality and allow them to get to know you.

Be true and consistent with your brand messaging across all of your professional marketing materials, but bear in mind that LinkedIn is a platform meant for interaction.

Avoid using buzzwords such as “plague.”

What do the terms “responsible,” “creative,” “effective,” “analytical,” “strategic,” “patient,” “expert,” “organized,” “motivated,” and “innovative” all have in common? They are among the most abused keywords on LinkedIn. Come on, we know you’re capable of being more inventive!

Treat your profile as you would your CV.

Your CV isn’t just a list of work responsibilities (or, at the very least, it shouldn’t be)—it’s a place to emphasize your finest achievements.

The same is true for your LinkedIn profile: fill out your experience section with bullet points that describe what you accomplished, how effectively you did it, and who is impacted.

Include the media in your summary.

“A picture is definitely worth a thousand words, especially when it comes to displaying your work.”

LinkedIn allows you to include photographs, videos, and slide shows in your profile summary.

Instead of simply discussing your job, you might provide examples.

Alternatively, demonstrate your abilities in action.

Or, you could share a presentation.

Scroll down to your summary, then click on the box icon, then ‘add the file.'”

Projects, Volunteer Experiences, and Languages can all be added.

Do you understand Mandarin

Do you have project management qualifications?

Every weekend, why not help out with Dress for Success?

Including these “extra” profile sections is an excellent method to highlight your unique abilities and experiences and stand out from the crowd.

Change Your Status

You may update your LinkedIn status as frequently as you choose, just as you do on Facebook

Do it! Update it professionally and strategically at least once a week (sharing the piece you just authored, not what you ate for lunch today).

Your entire network will see your updates, both in their news feeds and in the LinkedIn network updates emails, they get on a weekly basis.

Become a Writer

On the platform, every user may write and publish their work.

Share your thoughts on what’s going on in your sector, weigh in on recent industry development, or demonstrate your writing abilities.

It’s a terrific way to stand apart.

In Conclusion

Having a professional, eye-catching LinkedIn profile is a good idea to ensure that you can be found by the appropriate people at the right time, whether you’re job looking, generating leads, or networking in your sector.

If you follow these guidelines, you will have a great LinkedIn profile that will stand out to recruiters, hiring managers, and potential customers.

Which recommended practices would you add to the list?
